The Effect Of Moonbeams On Particle Acceleration

It's instructive to remember that—all things considerd—the universe will abide. Long after humans have departed the cosmic stage, old stars will die, new stars will be born, and the impact of "man-made" carbon emissions won't be any kind of a factor on anything. In the literal Grand Scheme Of Things, we just don't matter enough to matter.

This lesson was brought home by news that the Moon's gravitational field exerted subtle influences on the paths of protons at the "Big Bang" particle accelerator in Switzerland. Even though the influences were minute, they were enough to force scientists to continually adjust the proton beam orbits in the accelerator to keep them on target. So, perhaps the most complex and precise device ever devised by the mind of man can be flummoxed by a full moon. I think we can chill a little on the coming 'climate catastrophe'.
