Chilean Quake Moves Earth's Axis, Slows Down Days

Forget about Global Warming! How about a natural disaster that has real consequences on planet Earth?

According to Space.COM, the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked the South American nation of Chile actually resulted in shortened Earth days and moved the planet's "figure axis" off kilter. And, in a more immediate and important sense, the quake killed over 700 people.
